Michael Harrison B&W.JPG

Michael Harrison President Elect R.B.A.

Michael is the first Northamptonshire-born artist to be elected to the Royal Society of British Artists in over 100 years. His predecessor was Thurston Laidlaw Shoosmith.

Michael is descended from generations of shoemakers and lawyers, including Frank Harrison (grandfather), and Cyril Harrison (father) of the 'Shoosmiths & Harrison' law firm. He painted from an early age as a hobby, only becoming a full-time artist later in life.

In 2017 a series of 18 paintings were commissioned from Michael in his role as artist-in-residence at Leicester Cathedral, to record the events of the reinterment of King Richard III.

In March 2024, Michael was elected president of the RBA, beginning a 5-year term from June.
